The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has officially approved the establishment of a Land Registry for the sister island of Barbuda, marking a significant administrative development for the island's governance.
According to Antigua Observer, Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant announced the decision during Thursday's post-Cabinet press briefing. Merchant stated that "the Cabinet approved recommendations submitted by the land registry, regarding the imminent establishment and launch of the Barbuda" registry.
The approval signals a formal step toward providing Barbuda with a structured system for recording and managing land ownership and transactions — an area that has long been a subject of legal and political significance for the island, which historically operates under a communal land ownership model distinct from that of Antigua.
