A prominent trade unionist and attorney has been officially designated as a senator for the United Progressive Party (UPP), returning to the Upper House with greater experience and an expanded political mandate.
According to Antigua Observer, Malaka Parker — a former banker and past president of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union — has been appointed to the Senate, also taking on the role of constituency caretaker.
Parker's return to the Upper House marks a significant moment for the UPP, as the party continues to build its parliamentary presence. Her background in banking, labour relations, and law positions her as a seasoned voice within the opposition bench.
As reported by Antigua Observer, Parker previously served in the Senate and now re-enters the chamber with both additional experience and a broader set of responsibilities, including her role as a caretaker for a constituency the party is targeting.
