Residents of Swetes Village are preparing to honour 29-year-old Okeen Dean Lightfoot with a candlelight vigil on Tuesday, May 19, following his tragic death in a road accident earlier this week. According to Antigua.news, Lightfoot was killed while on duty as a sanitation worker for the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA).
The vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. opposite the bakery in Swetes Village. Family members, friends, co-workers, and community supporters are expected to attend. Organisers are asking attendees to wear royal blue attire in Lightfoot's honour.
Lightfoot, a grass-cutting employee of the NSWMA, lost his life on Tuesday morning while working along All Saints Road. He was on the northern side of the roadway when a motor bus travelling east allegedly lost control at speed, veered off the road, and struck him — pinning him between the vehicle and a parked truck.
The fatal crash has left the Swetes community in mourning. Residents and co-workers alike have expressed shock and deep sadness over the sudden loss of the 29-year-old.
