The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has approved the acquisition of new specialised road construction equipment and the hiring of additional technical experts to accelerate the Government's national road rehabilitation programme.
The decisions came during Wednesday's Cabinet meeting, where a delegation from the Ministry of Works delivered a comprehensive update on infrastructure progress. The delegation included the Minister of State within the Ministry of Works, the Permanent Secretary, the Director of Works and the Deputy Director of Works.
Officials briefed Cabinet on ongoing works along the All Saints Road corridor and a number of community road projects being carried out across the country. The programme, they noted, will continue at its current pace, with increasing focus now being directed toward rural communities and smaller road networks requiring urgent attention.
Cabinet approved the purchase of two additional pieces of specialised equipment designed to operate in narrower roadways and difficult-to-access areas where standard paving machinery cannot function effectively. The new machinery is expected to significantly strengthen the Ministry's capacity to undertake paving and rehabilitation works in smaller communities and residential districts nationwide.
The engagement of additional technical experts was also approved. Officials said the move is intended to improve project execution, operational efficiency and the overall quality of road construction works across the country.
Cabinet commended the Ministry of Works leadership and staff for what Ministers described as the "excellent work" being carried out throughout Antigua and Barbuda, praising the Ministry's dedication, professionalism and commitment to advancing the country's infrastructure agenda.
The Government reaffirmed its commitment to continued investment in road infrastructure across the twin-island nation.
