The Chinese Embassy in Antigua and Barbuda marked International Chinese Language Day with a cultural celebration hosted by the Confucius Institute on May 9, bringing together students, community members and language enthusiasts.

According to Antigua News Room, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Wei attended the event, which drew university students, members of the local overseas Chinese community and individuals with an interest in Chinese language and culture.

Ambassador Jiang described language as a bridge that strengthens understanding between civilizations and brings people closer together, as reported by Antigua News Room. She expressed hope that the event would inspire more residents of Antigua and Barbuda to learn Chinese and deepen cultural exchanges between the two nations.

The programme included lectures on Chinese culture alongside hands-on activities introducing participants to Chinese characters and traditional art forms.

Interactive booths gave attendees the opportunity to experience calligraphy, painted lacquer fans, pitch-pot games, traditional rubbing art and Hanfu costume activities.

Organisers said the event aimed to use language and culture as a platform to promote appreciation for Chinese traditions while fostering stronger people-to-people connections within the local community.
