The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has reaffirmed the provisions of the Labour Code requiring employees — particularly those in essential services — to report for duty on public holidays when rostered to do so.
Ministers reviewed employment obligations during public holidays at Wednesday's Cabinet meeting, emphasising that essential services play a critical role in maintaining the functioning of the country and ensuring uninterrupted delivery of services to the public. Adherence to established work schedules, Cabinet noted, is necessary to maintain efficiency, continuity, and public confidence in national services.
In a separate matter, Cabinet reviewed a report submitted by the Ministry of Works concerning the building occupied by the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). A technical assessment conducted by the Ministry found the building safe for occupancy and normal operations.
Following the report's findings, Cabinet advised that all ONDCP employees are expected to continue carrying out their daily functions and responsibilities within the established work environment.
The Government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safe and suitable working conditions for all public sector employees while maintaining the efficient operation of public services throughout Antigua and Barbuda.
