Antigua and Barbuda has not entered into any agreement with the United States concerning the transfer of third-country nationals, and Ambassador Sir Ronald Sanders is moving to set the record straight.
According to Antigua Observer, Sir Ronald — Antigua and Barbuda's top diplomat in Washington D.C. — issued the clarification after reports began circulating suggesting the country had already committed to accepting such individuals.
Sir Ronald's correction comes amid broader regional and international discussions around U.S. immigration enforcement policy, which has seen Washington engage a number of countries on agreements related to the movement and return of migrants who are nationals of third countries.
The Ambassador was clear that no such commitment has been made on behalf of Antigua and Barbuda, pushing back against what he indicated were inaccurate characterisations of the country's position.
