Residents of the Villa community were left shaken this week after the decomposing body of longtime resident Henry Waterman was discovered inside his home on Tuesday.
According to Antigua News Room, Waterman was a Barbadian national and former teacher at Mary E. Pigott Primary School who had lived in Antigua and Barbuda for several years.
Neighbours described Waterman as having grown increasingly withdrawn in recent years, noting that he had been facing both health and personal challenges.
Concern mounted after food left outside his home by a relative on Monday remained untouched the following day. Residents also reported a strong odour and an unusual number of flies around the property, prompting further checks to be carried out.
Upon entering the residence, Waterman's body was found in an advanced state of decomposition. Police and a district doctor responded to the scene, where he was formally pronounced dead.
Authorities have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
