The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) is mourning the death of one of its workers, Okeen Lightfoot, who was struck and killed by a vehicle while performing roadside duties along All Saints Road on Tuesday.
According to Antigua News Room, the NSWMA released a condolence statement expressing "heartfelt condolences on the tragic passing of our colleague, Okeen Lightfoot." The agency added that "our prayers and thoughts goes out to his family, friends and colleagues."
Lightfoot was reportedly hit by a passing vehicle while carrying out his duties at the roadside. The incident has left co-workers and members of the public shaken, and has prompted renewed calls for motorists to exercise greater caution when driving near roadside workers.
Health Minister Michael Joseph visited the scene earlier on Tuesday, using the occasion to appeal for increased vigilance and responsibility among drivers on the nation's roads.
