Senator Joel Rayne has been appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Corporate Governance and Public Private Partnerships, assuming an expanded role within the government.

Rayne took the oaths of allegiance, office and secrecy during a swearing-in ceremony at Government House on Thursday. The appointment comes just one week after he and nine other government senators were officially sworn into Parliament's Upper House.

Thursday's ceremony also marked the completion of the government's full slate of Senate appointments, with the swearing-in of the final government senator. Tiffany Anthea Lauren Strann-Peters took the oaths of allegiance, office and secrecy as she officially joined the Upper House.

Antigua and Barbuda's Constitution provides for a Senate of 17 members. Eleven senators are appointed on the advice of the Prime Minister, four on the advice of the Leader of the Opposition, one on the advice of the Barbuda Council, and one appointed independently by the Governor General.
