A Jamaican national has pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges more than a year after officers seized nearly a quarter of a million dollars worth of cannabis concealed in two boxes at Deep Water Harbour.
According to Antigua.news, Damar Sappleton, who had been residing in Bendals, appeared before High Court Judge John Spencer and entered his guilty plea, bringing the prosecution phase of the case to a close.
The case stems from a joint police and customs operation conducted on March 8th, 2024, during which officers uncovered 41 pounds of cannabis hidden inside the boxes at the harbour. The drugs were valued at an estimated $246,000.
Sappleton has been remanded to prison and is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on June 5th.
