Residents of the Villa community were left shaken Tuesday following the discovery of a decomposing body inside a local home. According to Antigua.news, the deceased has been identified as Henry Waterman, a Barbadian national and former teacher at Mary E. Pigott Primary School who had been residing in Antigua and Barbuda for several years.
Neighbours described Waterman as someone who had been facing significant health challenges in recent years and was believed to have struggled emotionally following a series of personal difficulties. He had grown increasingly reclusive over time, rarely interacting with others, though he was occasionally seen moving quietly about the community.
Concern mounted after food left outside his residence by a relative on Monday remained untouched the following day. Neighbours also reported a strong foul odour emanating from the property and an unusual number of flies surrounding the home.
Authorities were subsequently called to conduct checks at the residence, leading to the grim discovery of Waterman's body in an advanced state of decomposition.
Police officers and the district doctor arrived at the scene, where Waterman was officially pronounced dead. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
