A Canadian man held on remand at His Majesty's Prison has raised complaints about bed bugs at the facility, asking a judge during a court appearance Wednesday to have him transferred to another cell.
According to Antigua News Room, Semand Vivan Shammo Aljndo, 23, raised the issue directly with the presiding judge. He was advised to take the matter up with his attorney, Michael Archibald.
Aljndo has been held on remand since March after being deemed a flight risk. He faces five drug-related charges following his arrest at V.C. Bird International Airport on March 21, 2026. Police allege that officers from the Narcotics Department, K-9 Unit, and Customs Enforcement Unit discovered 26 vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis — weighing 26 pounds in total — inside a suitcase belonging to him after he arrived on an Air Canada flight from Toronto. The drugs are valued at more than EC$200,000.
