A 33-year-old man from Newfield has died following weeks in intensive care at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, after he was critically injured during an alleged incident at a political motorcade.
According to Antigua News Room, information circulating about the incident suggests the man may have fallen from a moving truck participating in an Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party motorcade. He was reportedly admitted to hospital on April 26 and remained on life support until his death.
Sources familiar with the matter indicated the man was allegedly found unconscious shortly after the incident occurred, with severe injuries reported at the scene.
Hospital personnel reportedly checked on the patient shortly after 4 a.m. on the morning he died, and later discovered he had no signs of life during a subsequent examination. Medical staff are said to have attempted emergency resuscitation measures, but those efforts proved unsuccessful.
Following his death, the Coroner was notified and authorised the removal of the body. Relatives subsequently requested that the remains be transferred to a local funeral establishment.
Officials have not publicly disclosed a confirmed cause of death. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
