The Antigua and Barbuda Reparations Support Commission (ABRSC) has announced the successful conclusion of its national essay competition, drawing approximately 20 submissions from secondary, college, and university students across the country. According to Antigua News Room, the competition was held under the theme "Reparatory Justice: Reflection and Projection."
The competition invited students to critically examine the meaning, relevance, and future of reparatory justice within Antigua and Barbuda and the broader Caribbean context. It formed part of the Commission's ongoing commitment to education, advocacy, and youth engagement on issues tied to reparations and historical justice.
The ABRSC expressed encouragement at both the level of participation and the quality of interest demonstrated by young people in this area of national and regional significance. The Commission commended all students who researched, reflected, and articulated their perspectives on a subject that continues to shape conversations around justice, development, identity, and repair.
Submissions are currently under review by a diverse panel of judges comprising academics, reparatory justice advocates, writers, and creatives. The Commission expressed confidence that the panel's broad expertise will ensure a fair and thorough evaluation process.
Winners are scheduled to be announced by May 22nd, 2026, in observance of African Liberation Day on May 25th. A prize-giving ceremony is planned for May 29th, 2026.
The ABRSC extended its appreciation to all participating students, as well as to the educators and institutions that supported and encouraged their involvement. The Commission reaffirmed its mission to foster deeper public awareness around reparatory justice and to create meaningful platforms for youth voices.
