A Barbuda resident and Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) supporter has alleged political victimisation following a staff transfer issued by the Barbuda Council in the wake of the April 30 general election. According to Antigua News Room, the claims surfaced after a transfer letter was circulated on social media by a user identified as Emrick John.

John alleged that several ABLP supporters in Barbuda were being targeted following the Barbuda People's Movement's (BPM) retention of political control over the sister isle in the election.

"Victimization done start," one social media post stated, urging supporters to share transfer letters and "expose them."

Another post included a photograph of a letter issued by the Barbuda Council, dated May 7, 2026, informing a woman identified as Kerry Warren that she had been transferred to the Sir McChesney George Secondary School cafeteria as a cleaner, effective May 8. The letter, signed by the Secretary/CEO of the Barbuda Council, outlined her assigned work hours and instructed her to report to a supervisor at the school.

John claimed the transfer was carried out in direct response to Warren's open support for the ABLP during the election campaign.

However, no evidence was provided in the posts establishing a direct link between the transfer and political affiliation. The Barbuda Council has not publicly responded to the allegations.

The BPM secured continued governance of Barbuda in the April 30 vote, while the ABLP won a fourth consecutive national term with a commanding 15-2 general election victory.
