The United Progressive Party (UPP) has announced the four individuals it has selected to serve as Opposition senators, as Jamale Pringle prepares to be formally appointed Leader of the Opposition on Monday.

According to Antigua Observer, Pringle has chosen Chester Hughes, Executive Officer of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers' Union; Jonathan Wehner, the UPP's public relations officer; and Malaka Parker, a party representative, among those tapped to fill the Opposition senate seats.

The appointments signal the UPP's move to consolidate its parliamentary presence following recent political developments. The selection of Hughes, a senior figure in the country's labour movement, alongside party officers Wehner and Parker, reflects a blend of civic and political representation within the Opposition's upper chamber team.

Pringle's formal assumption of the Opposition Leader role on Monday marks a significant moment for the UPP as it positions itself to hold the ruling administration to account in the new parliamentary term.
