Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin has informed Cabinet of the official schedule for the opening of the new Parliament and the swearing-in of elected and appointed lawmakers.
According to Antigua.news, the Lower House of Parliament will convene on May 18 for the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, alongside the swearing-in of elected members. The government is expected to nominate Osbert Frederick as Speaker and Philmore Benjamin as Deputy Speaker.
The Upper House will follow on May 20, when senators will be formally sworn in and the President and Deputy President of the Senate elected. The government intends to nominate Alincia Williams-Grant as President of the Senate and Philip Shoul as Deputy President.
Governor General Rodney Williams is scheduled to deliver the Throne Speech on May 26, marking the formal opening of Parliament.
