Veteran communications specialist and educator Angelica O'Donoghue has been appointed to the Senate on the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) side, bringing more than 15 years of experience in media, public relations, education, and communications strategy to the Upper House.

O'Donoghue was among newly appointed senators who took their oaths on Friday morning.

Widely recognised in Antigua and Barbuda's media and communications circles, O'Donoghue has played a significant role in shaping public discourse through journalism, policy communication, and advocacy work.

From 2011 to 2017, she owned and operated the Antigua Chronicle, one of the country's early online news platforms, while also contributing to media houses in St. Lucia. Her career later expanded into public relations and strategic communications, where she became a prominent figure in government and political messaging.

She currently serves as Coordinator of Policy Communications in the Ministry of Tourism and Investment and manages a private communications consultancy supporting businesses and organisations across several sectors. She has also served as Public Relations Officer for the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party.

Beyond communications and politics, O'Donoghue has built a presence in academia as an adjunct lecturer at the University of the West Indies Global Campus and the Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute, where she teaches English and Business Communication.

She is also recognised as a trainer and speaker in public relations, crisis communication, protocol, public speaking, and media engagement.

O'Donoghue has remained active in advocacy work outside her professional roles, particularly in reparatory justice and women's empowerment. She represents the Antigua and Barbuda Reparations Support Commission and has worked to keep reparatory justice discussions visible and accessible to the public.

She has additionally been involved in mentorship and empowerment initiatives for women and girls, including The Future is HER programme.

Her appointment adds an experienced communications voice to the Senate as the ABLP administration embarks on its new term following last week's general election victory.
