The Barbuda Council is calling on residents and diaspora members to participate in a new survey designed to identify the island's most pressing social and economic concerns, according to Antigua News Room. The initiative follows what the Council has described as a significant legal victory over land rights.
In a statement posted online alongside GLAN – Global Legal Action Network, the Council declared that last week marked "an important moment for Barbuda," after a court ruling reaffirmed that Barbudan land cannot be sold. The Council characterised the decision as a reminder of "what we can achieve when we stand together."
The survey seeks input from Barbudans both at home and abroad on a range of issues, including housing and land concerns, cost of living pressures, employment and economic opportunities, healthcare, education, and the long-term vision residents hold for the island's future.
"The survey helps the Council understand what matters most to you and helps guide planning and decisions for the future of Barbuda," the Council's statement read.
The Council also emphasised that broader participation would strengthen the Barbudan community's voice in ongoing discussions surrounding development and governance. Residents were encouraged to complete the survey and share it widely within the diaspora network.
"The future of Barbuda must be shaped by Barbudans," the statement concluded.
