Prime Minister Gaston Browne has declared that Antigua and Barbuda must position itself as a "lifestyle superpower," asserting that the country's economic progress should translate into improved living standards, stronger communities and greater national confidence.
According to Antigua News Room, Browne made the remarks during Tuesday's swearing-in ceremony, held following the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party's decisive victory in the April 30 general election.
"We have to continue the transformational build of this country," Browne told attendees, outlining a development vision that extends beyond economic growth to encompass "infrastructure, people, competitiveness, pride, environment, safety and security."
The Prime Minister argued that Antigua and Barbuda must leverage its stability and progress to create a country that appeals not only to visitors, but to its own citizens. "We have to position Antigua and Barbuda as a lifestyle superpower," he declared.
Browne linked that ambition to continued investments in infrastructure, housing, education and public services, while stressing the importance of national pride and social development. He said the country must press forward in building a society that offers opportunity, security and an improved quality of life.
"We must work boldly," Browne said, urging sustained efforts to strengthen the nation's competitiveness and resilience.
The Prime Minister also emphasised the need to invest in people — particularly young people — and to create conditions that support long-term economic and social advancement. He stated that the government's objective is not merely to grow the economy, but to ensure that development produces tangible benefits for communities across the country.
The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party secured 15 of the 17 parliamentary seats in last week's general election.
