Prime Minister Gaston Browne has urged his newly sworn-in Cabinet to govern in the interest of all citizens, warning against division and complacency as his administration begins a new term in office.
According to Antigua News Room, Browne made the remarks during Tuesday's swearing-in ceremony, held at the American University of Antigua, following the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party's decisive victory in the April 30 general election, in which the party secured 15 of the 17 parliamentary seats.
Speaking directly to his ministers, Browne was clear that the election campaign was over and that the focus must now turn to governance, productivity and national advancement.
"We have to continue the transformational build of this country," Browne said, outlining key priorities including infrastructure, people, competitiveness, pride, environment, and safety and security.
The Prime Minister reminded ministers of their broader responsibility to the public, not merely to political supporters. "You are here to serve the people of this country," he said, calling on officials to honour the mandate they received at the polls.
Browne also set a firm tone on standards, leaving little room for underperformance. "There must be no mediocrity," he said, insisting the administration must deliver meaningful results following its commanding election win.
His remarks aligned closely with those delivered earlier in the ceremony by Governor General Sir Rodney Williams, who told the incoming ministers they are "not of a party alone, but of Antigua and Barbuda as a whole."
The Prime Minister closed with a call for collective effort as the country moves into a new political term. "We must work boldly," he said.
