A major fire has destroyed nine buildings in Roseau, the capital of Dominica, causing widespread damage in the early hours of Wednesday morning. According to Antigua News Room, emergency crews responded overnight as flames spread rapidly through sections of the city before firefighters brought the blaze under control.

Among the structures lost was the office of Joshua Francis, leader of the United Progressive Party.

Authorities say the full extent of the losses is still being assessed, but the impact on affected businesses and residents is expected to be significant.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. Investigations are ongoing.

Images from the scene show extensive destruction, with several buildings reduced to rubble and smoke still lingering over parts of the city hours after the fire was extinguished.
