Sazeek Joseph has been sentenced to four years in prison after a jury found him guilty of attempting to rape an 18-year-old woman, according to Antigua News Room.
Joseph was convicted in March of both attempted rape and serious indecency. The court imposed a four-year sentence for the attempted rape charge and a concurrent one-year sentence for serious indecency.
The charges stem from an incident in June 2022. During the trial, the court heard that Joseph drove the woman to a secluded area and attempted to sexually assault her. She resisted, and later recorded part of their interaction, in which he admitted to damaging her clothing.
Prosecutors told the court that Joseph assaulted her again before she managed to escape and report the matter to police on the same day.
Jurors were presented with messages, audio recordings, and physical evidence. Joseph offered conflicting accounts during the proceedings, which the jury ultimately rejected.
He was remanded into custody following his conviction and was formally sentenced on Tuesday.
