Prime Minister Gaston Browne has put his incoming Cabinet on notice, demanding the highest standards of accountability and warning that public trust must not be broken following the government's re-election victory.
According to Antigua News Room, Browne made the remarks during an appearance on the Browne and Browne Show on Pointe FM on Saturday, stating that he has already conveyed to his colleagues that their conduct in office must reflect the confidence voters placed in them.
"I expect each of us, as minister, to uphold the trust of the people and to ensure that there is no betrayal of that trust," Browne said.
He was equally direct on the matter of public resources, insisting they be used solely for the benefit of citizens. "To make sure that public resources are utilized exclusively for the benefit of the people of Antigua and Barbuda… to make sure that there is no abuse of public resources whatsoever," he said.
Browne stressed that the government's renewed mandate carries significant responsibility, particularly as his administration pursues improved living standards and expanded economic opportunities for residents. "The trust of the people is sacred," he said, urging ministers to work diligently to deliver on campaign promises.
The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party, led by Browne, secured a commanding parliamentary majority after winning 15 of 17 seats in the April 30 general election.
Browne said his administration will ultimately be judged on its performance and delivery, adding that ministers must work "seriously" and "strenuously" to advance national development and improve the lives of citizens.
