Newly elected St. Mary's South representative Dwayne George says he is wasting no time shifting from campaigning to delivery, following his breakthrough victory in the April 30 general election.

According to Antigua News Room, George — a first-time MP-elect for the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) — defeated United Progressive Party candidate Kelvin "Shuggy" Simon as the ruling party swept to a decisive national victory, claiming 15 of the 17 parliamentary seats.

In a post-election interview, George reflected on a political journey that included previous unsuccessful attempts to secure the seat before his win this time around. He credited strong community support, particularly in Bolans, as a foundation of his victory.

"[We] won all Bolans boxes," George said, highlighting the area's contribution to his win.

George also spoke to his motivations for aligning with the ABLP, framing his decision in terms of public service. "I joined ABLP to serve," he said.

With the election behind him, George outlined a concrete agenda for his early months in office. Priority projects for the constituency include upgrades to a playing field, completion of a spectator stand and fencing, and road repairs.

George signalled that his first term will be defined by translating the electoral mandate he received into visible, tangible improvements for the people of St. Mary's South.
