Jamale Pringle, leader of the United Progressive Party and MP-elect for All Saints East and St. Luke, has pledged to stand firm as the lone UPP representative in Parliament following last night's general election results. According to Antigua.news, Pringle's return to the seat mirrors the party's 2018 general election outcome, when he also held the sole UPP position in Parliament.
In a brief post-election interview, Pringle congratulated the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party on its victory and pushed back against any suggestion that a slim margin of victory undermines his win.
The contest proved tightly fought. ABLP candidate Lamin Newton came within striking distance of claiming the seat, but a late surge of votes from the Old Road community ultimately carried Pringle over the line.
"Whether I win by one vote or by ten votes, you are the winner. There is no second place in politics," Pringle said. "The fact is we maintain the seat, and we will continue to maintain All Saints East and St. Luke in the column of the United Progressive Party."
Pringle now faces the task of representing his party's interests in Parliament as its only elected member, a role he has navigated before and appears ready to shoulder once again.
