Melford Nicholas has successfully defended his St. John's City East constituency for the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), securing another term as the seat's parliamentary representative in Thursday's General Elections. According to Antigua.news, Nicholas received the majority of votes, defeating United Progressive Party (UPP) challenger Pearl Quinn-Williams.
The result was closely watched given the constituency's history of razor-thin margins. In the previous general election, Nicholas held the seat by just six votes, making City East one of the most fiercely contested battlegrounds heading into Thursday's polls.
Despite a strong campaign from Quinn-Williams, who had expressed confidence in her ability to overturn the narrow deficit, voters ultimately returned Nicholas to office. The outcome reinforces the ABLP's hold on the urban constituency.
Nicholas first claimed the seat in 2014 and has held it continuously since, extending that unbroken streak with Thursday's victory. St. John's City East has historically been competitive territory, making each of his successive wins a significant achievement.
The result contributes to the ABLP's broader performance in the 2026 General Elections as the party works to secure a renewed mandate to govern Antigua and Barbuda.
