Newly elected representative for St. Philip's South, Kiz Johnson, says she is wasting no time transitioning from campaigning to governance, outlining early priorities in infrastructure, housing, and education following her electoral victory.
According to Antigua News Room, Johnson spoke shortly after her win, pledging what she described as "excellent representation" for the people of her constituency.
"We're ready to begin stepping up to serve the people of St. Philip's South… they deserve excellent representation," she said.
Johnson made clear that work in the constituency is already underway and will continue without interruption. "We have already begun the work, and so the work won't stop," she said.
Among her immediate priorities are strengthening infrastructure, improving roads, and expanding access to affordable housing. "We will continue to build stronger infrastructure… we're moving into getting affordable homes for the people in St. Philip's South," she said.
Johnson also identified education as a key focus, announcing that four constituents will benefit from newly secured scholarship opportunities. "I've just secured four 10-week scholarships for four residents who will have an opportunity to attend the University of the West Indies," she said, describing the initiative as part of a broader effort to expand educational access.
Reflecting on her first electoral victory, Johnson credited the support of her constituents and party members. "I could not have done this without the people… I am who I am because of them," she said.
Johnson also acknowledged the wider significance of her election, joining a small number of women currently serving in Parliament, as she prepares to take her seat at the next sitting of the House.
With the election behind her, Johnson's focus now turns to delivering on her campaign commitments as she begins her tenure representing St. Philip's South.
