The swearing-in of government ministers is scheduled for Tuesday at the American University of Antigua (AUA), as the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) moves to complete the formation of its new administration following a decisive general election victory, according to Antigua News Room.
The announcement came during Friday's ceremony at Government House, where Prime Minister Gaston Browne was sworn in for a fourth consecutive term alongside Attorney General Steadroy 'Cutie' Benjamin.
Thursday's general election delivered a commanding mandate for the ABLP, which secured 15 of the 17 parliamentary seats. The result extends the party's hold on government beyond a decade and cements Browne's standing as the country's longest-serving modern political leader.
The opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) was reduced to a single seat in Parliament, while the Barbuda People's Movement (BPM) retained its seat on the sister island.
At Friday's ceremony, Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams acknowledged the weight of the result, describing it as a historic mandate and cautioning that a landslide victory brings with it high public expectations.
In his own remarks, Browne pledged to "work harder" and to govern with accountability, unity, and a focus on improving living standards for all citizens.
Tuesday's ceremony at AUA will formalise the Cabinet that will steer the government's new term. With ministerial appointments yet to be announced, attention is now turning to the composition of the executive team and the policy priorities that will define the administration going forward.
The swearing-in will mark the final step in the transition from election victory to full governance, as ministers are formally assigned to their respective portfolios.
