The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission has issued a public reminder that the sale, offering, or distribution of alcohol is strictly prohibited during all polling hours on election day, according to Antigua News Room.
Under the Representation of the People Act, no intoxicating liquor may be sold or given away at any licensed premises within a constituency while voting is in progress. The restriction applies from the opening of polls at 6 a.m. through to their close at 6 p.m.
The Commission warns that any individual found in breach of the law faces significant penalties, including a fine of up to $3,000 or imprisonment for up to 12 months.
The alcohol ban forms part of a broader set of measures designed to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and lawful voting environment across Antigua and Barbuda.
Authorities are urging business owners and members of the public to comply fully with the regulations as voting proceeds nationwide.
