The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) has issued a set of guidelines governing voter conduct at polling stations, as electors across the twin-island nation continue casting their ballots. According to Antigua News Room, the Commission is urging all voters to adhere strictly to established procedures in order to ensure a smooth and orderly election.
Polling stations opened at 6 a.m. and are scheduled to close at 6 p.m. Officials are reminding voters to follow instructions from presiding officers and to have their voter identification cards ready before entering polling stations.
Electors are being advised to review their ballots carefully, pay close attention to party symbols, and mark only one candidate. Those uncertain about any step in the process are encouraged to seek guidance from election officials on site.
The Commission has also outlined a series of restrictions designed to maintain order and neutrality throughout the voting process. Voters are prohibited from using mobile phones or smartwatches inside voting areas, and provisions are in place for such devices to be held upon entry. Authorities have additionally cautioned against disruptive or disrespectful behaviour at any polling station.
Electors are further reminded not to wear party colours when casting their votes and to refrain from bringing or displaying political paraphernalia within 100 yards of any polling station.
The Commission emphasised that strict adherence to these rules is essential to preserving the integrity of the electoral process as voters continue to participate throughout the day.
