The Antigua and Barbuda Girl Guides Headquarters has received a sustainable bench crafted from thousands of recycled plastic bottle caps, marking the successful completion of the Ocean Love NO Plastic NO Waste programme.
According to Antigua Observer, the bench represents the culmination of the Ocean Love NO Plastic NO Waste programme 2026, which was sponsored by the Sandals Foundation, the French Embassy in St Lucia, and additional partners.
The initiative underscores a growing regional commitment to environmental sustainability, turning discarded plastic waste into functional, durable infrastructure. The bench serves both as a practical addition to the Girl Guides Headquarters and as a tangible symbol of what community-driven recycling efforts can achieve.
The programme reflects broader efforts across the Caribbean to combat plastic pollution and reduce waste entering the region's oceans and coastal ecosystems — a concern of particular importance to small island nations like Antigua and Barbuda.
