ST. JOHN'S, Antigua, April 29, 2026 — The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) has extended its operating hours to 10 p.m. Wednesday night to manage a surge in voter ID card applications ahead of Thursday's general election, according to Antigua News Room.

In a notice issued Wednesday, the Commission said the extended hours are designed to facilitate the printing of permanent voter ID cards submitted during the day and to ensure they are ready for collection early Thursday morning.

However, ABEC made clear that the window for replacement or renewal applications will close at 7 p.m. "Anyone [who] presents themselves after 7 pm would have to return tomorrow for a Special ID Card," the Commission stated.

The decision comes amid heightened last-minute activity as voters rush to secure valid identification required to cast their ballots. The Commission has been urging electors to complete the process promptly to avoid delays on Election Day.

With polling scheduled for April 30, officials are working to streamline operations and ensure all eligible voters are properly equipped ahead of the vote.
