A free community health fair organised by United Progressive Party candidate Malaka Parker drew dozens of residents to the Yorks Basketball Court over the weekend, offering medical screenings and consultations at no cost. According to Antigua.news, the event was organised by Parker, who is contesting the St. John's Rural North constituency.

Held beneath an air-conditioned tent, the fair provided a comfortable setting where a paediatrician, ophthalmologist and general practitioner conducted health screenings and saw residents seeking medical advice.

Parker described the turnout as "a resounding success," saying the response signals a clear need for accessible, community-based healthcare. "What our communities require at this time is decentralised, community-level healthcare that extends beyond traditional facilities," she said. "That is why I will be advocating for a mobile screening unit to go into communities to conduct testing and provide basic services."

Earlier in the day, Parker addressed residents via a mobile public address system, emphasising that her work transcends political affiliation. "I'm about people, whether red, yellow, blue or orange. I don't care. It's about people," she said.

Healthcare and wellness feature prominently in Parker's Community Development Plan. Among the initiatives she has outlined are an MBS Pharmacy outlet at Cedar Grove Clinic, extended clinic operating hours, the establishment of "Fit Village" clubs and the training of local "Wellness Champions."

Parker thanked the volunteers and sponsors who made the fair possible and expressed her intention to build on such partnerships throughout the constituency going forward.
