Toxic smog from the Cooks Landfill blanketed communities in St. John's Rural West over the weekend, leaving residents in Five Islands, Hatton, and Denfields struggling to breathe as fires continue to smoulder unchecked, according to Antigua Observer.

United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate for the constituency, Richard Lewis, raised the alarm over the ongoing situation, accusing the government of failing to adequately address the persistent landfill fires and their impact on nearby residents.

As reported by Antigua Observer, the smog has caused significant distress for communities in the affected areas, with residents bearing the brunt of the hazardous air quality produced by the uncontrolled fires at the Cooks Landfill site.
