Prime Minister Gaston Browne used a major Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party rally on Saturday night to sharply attack the United Progressive Party's policy platform, dismissing it as a "ChatGPT manifesto" and arguing that the opposition's proposals lack credibility, economic grounding, and a realistic path to implementation.
According to Antigua News Room, Browne made the remarks before a crowd of approximately 10,000 supporters, delivering one of the sharpest lines of the campaign season as both parties enter the final days before the April 30 general election.
"When you look at this so-called manifesto, they don't have a written manifesto. They have a ChatGPT document that they posted on the website," Browne told the gathering.
The Prime Minister pressed the point further, contending that the UPP's proposals had not been subjected to any rigorous financial scrutiny. "They're making big promises, but they have no plans. They have not done the math… no analysis to determine affordability, viability, reliability, or sustainability," he said.
Browne accused the opposition of crafting broad pledges with no clear roadmap for delivery. "They are just literally throwing things out there with the hope that they could hook people to vote for them," he said, warning that poorly conceived policies could carry serious fiscal consequences.
"There's one of two things… they will drive the country into massive debt once again… or they will tax you out of existence," Browne said.
The Prime Minister contrasted the opposition's platform with his administration's economic record, highlighting a reduction in the national debt over the past decade. "We brought down the debt from 110% in 2014 down to 61% today. We're not going back there," he said.
The rally, reported by Antigua News Room as one of the largest of the campaign season, blended entertainment with political messaging and underscored the ABLP's broader electoral strategy — framing the April 30 vote as a choice between what it describes as proven governance and what it characterises as untested opposition proposals.
With campaigning now in its final stretch, Browne's "ChatGPT manifesto" attack is expected to remain a prominent feature of political discourse as both parties intensify their bids to secure voter support.
