ST. JOHN'S, Antigua and Barbuda — An anonymous bomb threat forced the evacuation of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda headquarters Monday morning, though a thorough search of the building revealed no explosive device.
The threat came in as an anonymous phone call at approximately 9:45 a.m. on April 27, with the caller claiming an explosive device had been planted inside the building. Authorities immediately activated evacuation procedures, safely clearing all occupants from the premises.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team, assisted by a K-9 explosive detection unit, conducted a thorough search of the building and its surrounding areas. No device or any item of an explosive nature was discovered. An all-clear was subsequently issued and normal operations resumed.
The Police Administration strongly condemned the act, describing it as causing unnecessary alarm and disruption, and warned the public that such actions are treated as serious criminal offences.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched a formal investigation into the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact the CID at 462-3913 or the Crimestoppers anonymous hotline at 800-TIPS (8477). All information will be treated in strict confidence.
