A bomb threat triggered a full emergency response at Police Headquarters on American Road on Monday morning, forcing the evacuation of staff and temporarily suspending operations at the facility.
According to Antigua.news, an anonymous caller phoned in the threat at approximately 9:45 a.m., claiming that an explosive device had been planted inside the building. Authorities immediately activated emergency protocols, directing officers and staff to evacuate the premises.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team, supported by a K-9 explosive detection unit, conducted a thorough sweep of the building and its surrounding areas. After an extensive search, officials confirmed that no explosive device or suspicious item was found. An all-clear was subsequently issued, and normal operations resumed.
Police have strongly condemned the incident, warning that hoax threats of this nature create public panic, disrupt critical services, and constitute serious criminal offences.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched a probe to identify and apprehend the caller responsible for the threat.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the CID at 462-3913 or to call Crimestoppers anonymously at 800-TIPS (8477). Police are reminding the public that false reports of this nature carry severe legal consequences and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
