A shark sighting at Ffryes Beach on Sunday briefly alarmed beachgoers, prompting swimmers to leave the water while others observed from a safe distance along the shoreline.

According to Antigua News Room, witnesses reported that the animal moved slowly just beyond the shallows. Onlookers recorded the rare encounter and called out warnings to swimmers who were further out in the water.

No injuries were reported. The shark eventually moved away from the area without incident.

Shark encounters in local waters are uncommon, though they can occur — particularly in areas with high fish activity. Authorities generally advise swimmers who spot a shark to remain calm and exit the water in a safe and orderly manner.
