The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) has issued a firm reminder that only properly registered electors carrying valid identification will be permitted to vote in the upcoming general election. According to Antigua.news, the Commission is urging all eligible voters to confirm their registration status and secure the necessary documentation well ahead of election day.

ABEC made clear that eligibility rests on a single non-negotiable requirement: appearing on the official Register of Electors. "This means that your name must appear on a Register for Elections," the Commission stated in its latest voter guidance.

Beyond registration, voters must present their electoral identification card at their designated polling station. Those who arrive without the card will not be allowed to cast a ballot. All voting must be conducted in person at the polling station assigned to each individual elector.

However, certain groups are exempt from this in-person requirement. Members of the Royal Police Force, the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force, and election officials on duty on election day may apply to vote by proxy under established procedures.

ABEC explained that qualifying individuals must designate a proxy voter located within Antigua and Barbuda to cast a ballot on their behalf, in accordance with the relevant regulations.

The Commission is calling on all voters to verify their registration and ensure they have their electoral identification card ready well before polls open, cautioning that those without proper documentation will be turned away.
