The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) has issued a reminder that only registered voters carrying valid identification will be permitted to cast ballots in the upcoming general election.
According to Antigua News Room, ABEC's latest guidance makes clear that eligibility to vote depends entirely on being listed on the official Register of Electors. The Commission stressed that registration is mandatory and cannot be waived under any circumstances.
Voters must present their electoral identification card upon arrival at their assigned polling station. Anyone without the required identification will not be allowed to vote.
All ballots must be cast in person at designated polling stations. However, limited exceptions do apply. Members of the Royal Police Force, the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force, and election officials on duty are permitted to vote by proxy, provided they complete the necessary application process in advance.
ABEC noted that eligible individuals seeking to vote by proxy must appoint someone within Antigua and Barbuda to cast a ballot on their behalf, in accordance with established rules.
The Commission is urging all voters to confirm their registration status and ensure they have the required documents well before election day to avoid being turned away at the polls.
