As Antigua and Barbuda prepares for its upcoming general election, the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) is providing a closer look at the personnel responsible for managing the voting process on election day. According to Antigua.news, the Commission has outlined the specific roles of key election workers, underscoring their obligation to operate with fairness and strict impartiality.
At the top of the electoral structure sits the Returning Officer, who oversees all polling stations within a given constituency. This official bears responsibility for supervising proceedings and ensuring that election laws are upheld throughout the process.
At the station level, each polling location is managed by a Presiding Officer, who is charged with issuing ballots and guiding voters through the voting process. Presiding Officers are also tasked with assisting individuals who may require help casting their vote, including persons with disabilities.
Supporting the Presiding Officers are Poll Clerks, who handle administrative duties and help maintain the orderly flow of voters. Information Clerks serve as the first point of contact for electors, answering questions and providing direction at polling stations.
ABEC has stated that every officer is required to carry out their duties under oath and with strict neutrality. The Commission further noted that the efficiency and credibility of the election depend heavily on the professionalism and conduct of these workers.
With thousands of voters expected to participate in the April 30 general election, ABEC says its trained personnel will be critical in ensuring the process remains orderly, transparent, and accessible to all eligible citizens.
