The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs has moved to clarify the circumstances surrounding the ongoing temporary closure of the Grays Farm Dental Clinic.
A formal closure notice was issued in October 2025 to facilitate improvement works requested by Head of the Dental Department Dr. Derek Marshall, as part of routine efforts to maintain acceptable standards across public healthcare facilities.
Following an initial assessment by the Ministry of Works and Ministry of Health personnel, it became clear that the scope of work required was more extensive than originally anticipated. Additional deficiencies were identified, necessitating more in-depth interventions to ensure the clinic meets appropriate standards for the delivery of safe, quality dental care. The facility has remained temporarily closed while those matters are being addressed.
The Ministry stressed that residents who normally access services at Grays Farm have not been left without options. Patients were directed to the Villa Polyclinic, where accommodations have been made to meet their dental care needs and ensure continuity of services.
While the Ministry of Works has been engaged regarding the required upgrades, work at the clinic has not yet commenced. The Ministry cited competing national priorities, with other facilities also requiring urgent and significant repairs.
The Ministry emphasised that the extended closure reflects a deliberate decision rather than neglect. The objective, it stated, is to ensure that when the facility reopens, it will meet and exceed its previous standards — delivering a safer, more efficient environment for both patients and staff.
The Ministry expressed appreciation for the continued patience and understanding of the public as it works toward the long-term improvement of the country's healthcare infrastructure.
