A former executive of the United Progressive Party has broken ranks to publicly endorse Prime Minister Gaston Browne, arguing that leadership experience should be the defining issue for voters in the upcoming general election.
According to Antigua News Room, Desmond Charles made the endorsement in remarks to Antigua.news, urging citizens to look beyond party loyalty when casting their ballots. Charles, who says he is not currently aligned with any political party, contends that the complexity of today's challenges demands proven leadership at the helm of government.
While Charles acknowledged that he maintains a good personal relationship with UPP leader Jamale Pringle, he stated plainly that he does not believe Pringle is ready to serve as prime minister.
Charles framed his position as one rooted in the national interest rather than partisan allegiance, stressing that the welfare of Antigua and Barbuda must take precedence over political ties.
