The Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority has confirmed that V.C. Bird International Airport safely managed an in-flight emergency involving an arriving aircraft on Wednesday morning. According to Antigua News Room, the incident occurred at approximately 8:36 a.m. local time (12:36 UTC) on April 22nd and involved a communications-related malfunction aboard the aircraft.
Air Traffic Control personnel responded in accordance with the airport's established safety protocols, successfully guiding the aircraft to a safe landing under the supervision of on-site emergency services. The Authority reported that the situation was handled swiftly and efficiently by its team of aviation experts.
Operations at V.C. Bird International were not significantly disrupted as a result of the incident. The airport was able to promptly resume its schedule of arrivals and departures following the emergency.
The Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority took the opportunity to commend its Air Traffic Control staff for the professionalism and vigilance they demonstrated throughout the incident, as well as the broader Operations team for their coordinated support in ensuring the safety of all those involved.
