Approximately 60 workers at the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) staged a protest Wednesday morning over outstanding back pay, deteriorating working conditions, and what they described as a breakdown in communication with management.

According to Antigua.news, the workers — drawn from both the landfill and waste collection units — gathered outside the Multipurpose Cultural Centre to voice a range of grievances. These included unpaid incentives and a risk allowance they say has fallen behind those offered by comparable statutory bodies.

Workers also raised concerns about inadequate bathroom facilities at the landfill site and transportation they argued is insufficient for the roughly 30 workers who report to the site each day.

Several workers went further, openly calling for the removal of General Manager Indira James-Henry, citing what they described as a lack of engagement from the top of the organisation.
