Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party candidate for Barbuda, Kendra Beazer, says a planned housing development for the island is approaching its final planning stage, with key details on construction expected to be released by July.

According to Antigua News Room, Beazer made the remarks during a "Know Your Candidates" interview held ahead of the April 30 general election.

"The housing project that is supported through the Chinese government, that project is presently in its finalization stage," Beazer said, adding that residents should expect more definitive information in the coming months.

"You will hear information as to commencement date at that point," he said, referring to July as the anticipated timeframe for a formal update.

The development is intended to address persistent housing challenges in Barbuda, where access to affordable homes and infrastructure gaps have emerged as key issues on the campaign trail.

Beazer stressed that the project would be designed specifically to meet the needs of Barbudans, rather than mirroring housing models already in use elsewhere in Antigua.

"It's similar, but… it's not the same. We're two different communities. It will be tailored to fit the community of Barbuda," he said.
