Wayne Thomas, one of three men standing trial for the abduction and murder of senior Customs official Nigel Christian, has declared his innocence from the dock, describing the ordeal as the most difficult experience of his life.
According to Antigua Observer, Thomas delivered an unsworn statement during proceedings, telling the court: "This has been the hardest thing I have had to go through in my life: being accused of something I did not do."
Thomas is among three accused facing charges in connection with the high-profile case involving the disappearance and killing of Christian, who held a senior position within the Antigua and Barbuda Customs and Excise Division. The case has drawn significant public attention given the prominence of the victim.
An unsworn statement from the dock allows a defendant to address the court directly without being subject to cross-examination by the prosecution.
