The University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus has opened applications for a new Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme, with a deadline of June 30, 2026, ahead of a scheduled August start. According to Antigua News Room, the campus issued the notice this week, confirming that the degree will be offered in conjunction with the UWI Mona Campus.
The partnership allows students in Antigua and Barbuda to pursue legal studies locally, removing the need to travel abroad for a law qualification — a significant development for aspiring legal professionals in the twin-island nation.
The announcement coincides with Prime Minister Gaston Browne's stated plans to expand access to higher education. Speaking at the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party's manifesto launch on Monday, Browne outlined an initiative to provide free university education for Antiguans and Barbudans, describing it as a broader effort to reduce financial barriers to tertiary studies.
The Prime Minister framed the policy as an investment in national development, aimed at equipping citizens with the skills needed to compete in an evolving global economy while strengthening local capacity in key professions.
